  • Maple leaves in various shades radiate the morning sunlight in northern Michigan.

  • A pleasant mixture of foliage and color.

  • This is a neat foliage shot of the perennial herb known as Lamb's Ear. The name pretty much says it all.

  • An interesting texture is created in this horticultural image, which was achieved through a large lens opening that draws focus on the foreground foliage, and progressively defocuses the background. This is another example of an image that adds both interest and warmth to an interior space, particularly in the winter.

  • Along Lac La Belle's autumn shoreline, beautiful red berries stand out in contrast to a background of colorful shoreline foliage.

  • Nothing beats the simplicity of Violets and Pansies. While their blooms have none of the complexity of Dahlias, Peonies, or Roses, they're beautiful, just the same.

  • In summer, the Green Bay Botanical Garden is simply breathtaking. Individual blooms are beautiful, to be sure, but there are many viewing angles where the layering of color and texture are striking.

  • Blue Berries on Green Foliage

  • Spring is a beautiful season in the Midwest, with spectacular foliage and natural floral color. The crabapple blossoms contrast against a background of bright green foliage.

  • Spirea bushes continue to provide amazing fall colors well after most other deciduous trees have given up their leaves for the year.

  • With only sunlight illumination from overhead, this is another example of the beauty of the blooms and foliage of the Peony.

  • Spring foliage reflects from the surface of this natural pond.

  • Robins return to the Midwest very early in the spring. By the time the trees begin to show foliage, they are already staking out territory. This robin, which I photographed in the spring of 2010, was clearly voicing his concern about my being near his newly claimed Linden tree.

  • Beautiful green deciduous foliage, just prior to the onset of the fall color change, contrasting against the ever-present spruce of northern Michigan.

  • Trees that grow at the water's edge often topple into the Manistee River's backwater bayous and ponds, especially when spring's high water softens the banks. This old tree contrasts rather starkly against the lush background foliage.

  • Hollyhocks produce simple, yet beautiful floral clusters on tall stalks starting in late June in Northeast Wisconsin. When planted close together, they form a wall of foliage and color.
